Elmbridge update – improvements to county’s busiest roundabout on track by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/The Elmbridge Court roundabout has almost completed its first stage. Tarmac for the new lane is being laid and the foundations for the subway are taking shape.
The £7million investment work on the Elmbridge Court roundabout is on track with the first phase completing at the end of this month.
Throughout these first five weeks crews have worked hard on digging up the existing road and positioning of the new hamburger lane, with tarmac being laid this week.
Utility companies have also begun their work at the roundabout, the foundations for the new subway have started and the draining system is underway.
Elmbridge Court roundabout is one of the busiest junctions in the county. These much needed improvements will help relieve congestion, save commuters time and allow traffic to flow more smoothly.
Once the entire scheme is completed, there will be a new straight-on ‘hamburger lane’, a widening of the approach lanes and the latest traffic signal technology at the roundabout.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said, “This first phase has seen crews work tremendously hard. This project won’t happen over night, but it is clearly already taking shape and we’re making great progress.
“I’d like to thank road users for the patients they’ve shown whilst we carry out the works. The improvements to this roundabout will be significant and improve the traffic flow at one of the busiest junctions in Gloucestershire.”
