Clive Walford to stand in Longlevens by-election by Kate | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/Former Gloucester Rugby player Clive Walford will be the Conservative candidate in the Longlevens by-election caused by the sad death of Councillor Jim Porter.
Clive lives in Estcourt Close and has lived in the Longlevens area for 36 years. He worked for 31 years in the criminal justice system but has now largely retired, giving him the time needed to serve the community. He has pledged to campaign on issues ranging from protecting open spaces to dealing with HGVs using inappropriate routes through Longlevens, dealing with the impact of the University of Gloucestershire’s expansion and secondary education in the north of the city.
Clive is a former Chairman of the Estcourt Close Allotment Association and is an active member of the Residents Association. He played for and captained Old Richians RFC and played for Gloucester. He is Chairman of the Gloucester Rugby Players Association.
Clive said, “It is a great honour to be chosen to stand in Jim’s place. Jim was a man I greatly respected and I hope to carry on his good work.”
The area’s two Conservative councillors Paul James and Kathy Williams are supporting Clive. Kathy Williams said, “Clive has a real passion for Longlevens and I enjoy working with him as part of our team. He gets things done! If Clive is elected as City Councillor for Longlevens I know there is a lot we can achieve together for our area.” Paul James added, “Clive would make an excellent councillor and would be a real asset both to Longlevens and to the city as a whole”
The election will be held on 3rd November.
