To keep traffic into Gloucester flowing freely, the county council is upgrading the road surface at a roundabout on a key route into the city.

Popular use has caused heavy wear and tear to the A38 Barnwood roundabout, which joins Barnwood Road with Estcourt Road and London Road. As part of the county council’s continued investment in Gloucestershire’s roads, resurfacing work will take place in the evening to reduce disruption, on 6th and 7th March between 7-11pm.

Upgrading this section of road will also mean a smoother and more efficient journey for ambulances travelling to nearby Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. The road will remain available for emergency use during the resurfacing.

During the work a diversion route for heavy vehicles will be signposted via Corinium Avenue to Walls Roundabout, A417 to Elmbridge Roundabout, A40 to Longford Roundabout, left towards Kingsholm then left onto Estcourt Road, and vice versa. However the majority of traffic will be able to find shorter routes.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: “The county council carries out regular maintenance checks of Gloucestershire’s roads to keep important routes moving: the A38 roundabout is a priority for us, given its proximity to the hospital and its role as a gateway into the city.”

Cllr Jeremy Hilton, county councillor for Kingsholm and Wotton, said: “Investing in our roads is vitally important. This is a small, but busy roundabout, near to Armscroft Park. The resurfacing will take just a couple of days. Thank you in advance to local people for their patience whilst this work is being carried out.”
