Could you recycle more? Think before you throw!

Gloucester City Council has launched a new campaign asking you to think before you throw things in your black bin.

Since the improved recycling service was launched back in January, Gloucester residents have really got on board and as a result more than 800 tonnes of additional recycling has been collected in Gloucester.  This six week campaign, which launched on 12th June, is urging city residents to ‘Recycle More’ and think about what they are throwing away.

Recent surveys have found that although 14 per cent more people across the city are taking part in recycling their rubbish in some way, there is still more that can be recycled.

Cllr Richard Cook, cabinet member for environment at Gloucester City Council, said: “There has been a clear increase in the amount of material collected at the kerb, but we think Gloucester can do even better and divert more and divert more recyclables away from landfill.

“We know a lot about what and how residents recycle, and we hope this campaign reminds people to use all of the fantastic recycling facilities we have in the city.”

There will be 52,000 stickers on black waste bins city-wide showing materials which can be recycled and shouldn’t go to landfill.
