To celebrate the Centenary of the Cotton Motorcycle company and the 25th anniversary of the Cotton Motorcycle Club, the largest collection of Cotton Motorcycles will be roaring up to the “The Folk of Gloucester” on Saturday the 10th of August 2019 from 11am to 4pm.
The Cotton factory was located just a few hundred metres from the venue, (which used to be The Folk Museum.) The first Cotton motorcycle made in Gloucester by Frank Willoughby Cotton was in 1919, exactly 100 years ago.
Cotton Motorcycles went on to Smash 12 world records and winning the Famous Isle of Man TT multiple times from 1923 onwards
Prewar and post war examples of these successful machines will be on display, some shiny examples and some well used ones with plenty of patina. Other Cotton related items will also be on display. Anyone is welcome to attend from 11am to 4:00 pm, entry is free.
It is also the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Cotton Owners’ and Enthusiasts’ Club. Members will be there to talk to the public and hopefully answer any questions they may have. If there are any interesting stories relating to Cotton, the Club would love to hear them.
This is a preview event for the Folk of Gloucester which is opening in Spring 2020 and will be an exhibition and events space housed in a large Tudor building in Lower Westgate, Gloucester. It will tell the story of Gloucester Folk from Tudor Times to the Modern Day.
The Folk will be operating a café during the event offering Teas, Coffees and Cakes and the chance to record your memories of Cotton Motorcycles for the new display coming in Spring Next year.
