Gloucester Folk Trail is set to return – with a difference – this week!
The three-day festival has become a mainstay in the city’s calendar in recent years with various venues hosting acts from around the country.
But because of the restrictions still in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 trail is going virtual. Musicians will keep folkaholics and casual fans alike entertained in the comfort of their homes thanks to live streamed shows on Facebook and YouTube.
It takes place from February 19-21.
The event’s organisers have been working hard to keep the festival alive in 2021 while making sure fans and musicians can stay safe at the same time and, despite the challenges, have pulled together a great programme celebrating the best of folk.
Expect a full line-up of musicians, storytellers, poets and dancers to keep you entertained just like in the city’s real-world Folk Trails of 2018, 2019 and 2020 – but you’ll have to provide your own cider.
Sing along to shanties, ballads, old-time country and original songs, improve your string skills with folk guitar and fiddle workshops, listen to tall tales and poetry, marvel at virtual morris dancing. There’ll even be an interactive ceilidh to try at home, a rollicking tunes session and a gentle folk club singaround for shy homegrown talent.
