Support local businesses this National Picnic Week
The annual campaign encourages people to get outside and enjoy some DIY al fresco dining, and there’s never been a better excuse to support Gloucester’s food and drink traders.
The city is packed with great spots to roll out your blanket or tablecloth and enjoy a spread, from the beautiful grounds of Llanthony Secunda Priory, to a sunny spot in Gloucester Park or a bench in the shadow of the iconic cathedral.Â
And what better way to enjoy your picnic than to do so by buying local from any of the city’s brilliant shops, delis and cafes.
Running from June 19-27 across the country, National Picnic Week aims to provide picnic tips, picnic hotspots, and everything surrounding picnics to help the nation roll out their picnic rugs and embrace British summertime.
In Gloucester, choices for picnic aficionados are wide and varied, from artisan pizzas to handmade sausage rolls, sandwiches, savoury nibbles, meal deals, international cuisine and so much more – the list is endless.
If you’re in need of picnicware, there is a great choice of high street retailers where you can find something special for your outdoor experience making it a bit more glam, or perhaps have a rummage around the various second hand shops that we have in the city. There might be something pre-loved with a story perfect for your picnic.
If rolling out the blanket is not for you, there are plenty of benches in Gloucester’s open spaces to use, with Pillar and Lucy Square being one place where picnic benches are available for specifically ordering your favourite flavours from a Gloucester Quays restaurant.
