Customers are being welcomed into a new expanded space at Webbs Reptile Centre where you can find a wide range of reptiles, aquatics, and pets.
Owners of the Eastgate Street centre Andy and Jen Webb stock reptiles for all levels of keepers and can create bio-active set-ups and tanks. They also have a large range of tropical and cold-water fish with a recently added marine section. You’ll also find aquatic products, heaters, filters and décor.
Along with more unusual pets, you’ll find the furry and feathered variety as the shop caters for mammals and birds such as hamsters and parrots.
Andy and Jen have faced the same challenges as everyone else over the past two years, but pivoted by doing Facebook Lives during lockdown. People were able to enjoy online tours of the shop and its unusual inhabitants. Sales were also good over lockdown as people were spending more time at home with their pets.
Jen says there is a real range people who buy reptiles, ‘People of all ages and backgrounds come here. We even have an 86-year-old customer who keeps chameleons and only recently became interested.’
If you’re a first-time reptile owner, Jen encourages people to come into the shop and speak to the experienced staff. She said, ‘We are all experienced in finding what’s suitable for you. It’s easier to come in than looking at pictures. Most people have ideas of what they like and what don’t like. We help them narrow it down to what’s suitable.’
Webbs provides specialist environments for the reptiles and pets they keep. They also have all the equipment you would need to responsibly house one. Most of the reptiles and pets are bred in captivity and many are bred locally.
People still prefer to buy in the shop but you can find Webbs Reptile Centre online and on Facebook where they regularly share new Live streams and tour the shop online. You can also find Webb’s Reptiles on TikTok.
Jen encourages people to visit the shop in person, she said, ‘We have had a lot of changes with lots of moving around and expansion and the shop is really starting to come together.’
Andy and Jen have lots of pets themselves with parrots, reptiles and turtles to look after. They are 100% focused on ensuring only responsible owners take on their stock. Jen said, ‘You might be thinking of getting a reptile as a present for Christmas, and we say that not buying on a whim applies all year round. We make sure we’re selling an animal to someone responsible by asking the right questions; that’s just part of our job.’
