75 Police CCTV Incidents Attended in April 2022

Highlights for the Month

  • 1stShoplifter was caught in store with a bag full of items he tried to walk out with, after the store staff took the bag off him, he went into another store. CPOs and PCSOs went to remove him but he had run off.
  • First aid incident comforted a female after she had a fit in town, checked she had no injuries when she fell, stayed until a relative picked her up.
  • A group of drinkers in one of the city safe pubs were removed due to their behaviour and the fact one had been sick all over the floor. One of the senior members of the group had left money to pay for the cleaning up.
  • 2nd One of the street drinkers got into an argument regarding street beggars, he claimed that they were a “scourge” to society and that we (CPOs) should remove them out of the area.
  • Two young teenaged girls were escorted to the bus station as they were being chased by a group of girls who were bullying them.
  • Shoplifter was caught and all items retrieved, she was processed through the yellow card system.
  • During the evening assisted pub security in stopping a large brawl inside a pub. Police arrived and took over the incident.
  • 3rd A male who has a ban from being in the city was removed from Mc Donald’s as he was causing issues inside of the store.
  • Followed a shoplifter through town however he managed to evade and get away in a car. CCTV managed to get the number plate and monitored the car out of town.
  • Street beggar was removed from the area outside the regal. This male became very aggressive and refused to go but he walked away when police were called.
  • 4th Male who has a CBO banning him from town was reported for breaching this ban.
  • A male and female were removed from a city safe location, the male had a CBO, so he was reported for this breach.
  • An argument was stopped by CPOs outside on Southgate Street, the couple were screaming and shouting. They were advised to stop and leave the area.
  • CPO assisted the police in removing a drunk person from the Cathedral grounds, due to his ongoing behaviour the police arrested this male.
  • 5th First aid incident attend by CPOs, managed to sort out the males’ injuries but his wife insisted he went to A&E, the CPOs stayed with him whilst she got the car.
  • A member of the public complained to the CPOs about being beaten up the night before, after going through the details it has already been reported. The male was advised to attend Bearlands reception if he had additional information. CPO checked that it had been reported.
  • Street drinkers were removed from the graveyard area as they were too many and being very loud, complaints were received.
  • 6thCall from the Churchyard workers that there were a large group of drinkers in the graveyard. On attending the CPOs requested the drinkers to move somewhere else, which they did.
  • First aid incident dealt with by request of CCTV, after checking the male who had a head wound, he was advised to go to A&E to have it looked at, a friend who was with him offered to take him. All details passed to CCTV who continued to monitor him.
  • Two males who attempted to jump the barriers at the train station were detained by CPOs and staff made the males pay for a full price ticket. Their details were passed to BTP.
  • A street beggar who has started banging on car windows, asking for money was removed from the car park area.
  • 7th A female was stopped by CPOs as she had hospital tubes and paraphernalia hanging out of her arms. After talking to her the police were called, they arrived and took her back to GRH.
  • A shoplifter was detained by store staff and CPOs, all goods were retrieved, and all information added to DISC.
  • CPOs requested by CCTV to check on a person slumped over in Cross Keys Lane, on checking the person it turned out to be one of the street drinkers who was very drunk, they insisted they did not need any assistance from CPOs or police.
  • 8th A known individual was reminded of his CBO which excludes him from entering town and local areas.
  • Street drinkers removed from public areas in town, causing issues with the public.
  • CPOs called to break up a fight between two street drinkers, threats were made and a claim of bullying to gain entry to a flat. All information was passed to the police.
  • CPO team involved in breaking up a domestic argument that was happening in a city safe store. Both parties separated.
  • Called to a city safe store after a complaint by one of the staff that a male was claiming to be a Paedophile millionaire and making wild claims. On arrival of the CPOs the male had left. A search was carried out, but the male was not found. All information was sent to police.
  • 9th CPOs assisted in getting one of the street drinkers to GRH, ongoing issues with the persons health.
  • CPOs assist in the search for a missing dog, the animal was found and returned to its owner.
  • CPOs involved with a female who had fallen over, she was also complaining of chest pains, an ambulance was called for her. On arrival of the ambulance all details were passed on, and they took over the incident.
  • Several groups of young lads were removed from one of the eating establishments for causing issues and bad behaviour in public.
  • 10th CPOs assisted station staff when two males tried to jump a barrier without paying the correct fare. They were detained and made to pay before police were called.
  • A female shoplifter was detained in a city safe store, all items were retrieved, and all her details were added to DISC.
  • Groups of youths were removed from the car parks where they were causing issues.
  • 11th CPOs were tasked in logging all street drinkers, the times, and names of all involved, the locations and what was happening within the group. Added to this list was also the people who were begging in and around the city
  • A breach report was put in as there was a male in the city with a CBO. This male has been warned and reminded of the conditions of his CBO on several occasions.
  • 12th Called to identify a shoplifter in a city safe store via CCTV in store, this person is not known. Will be added to DISC as ID Sought.
  • Called to identify an individual who managed to steal an iPad from a store; this person is known, will be reported, and added to DISC for the offence. The Police were also informed.
  • The CPOs were called to a fight, the two people fighting were separated and the two were told to leave the area.
    The CPOs were called to break up a disagreement over a bingo game, both parties separated and the two were sent on their way.
  • 13th CPO team called to check the CCTV cameras of a city safe store to try and identify a female shoplifter, the female in question has so far managed to evade detention but also not known to the CPO teams. She has been added to DISC as ID sought.
  • A Large group of street drinkers were spoken to by the CPOs at the bus stops on Southgate Street, they were reminded about the PSPO and requested they move somewhere less public.
  • Three people drinking alcohol in Kings square were removed after the PSPO rules were explained.
  • A Male who had attempted to steal alcohol and clothing from one store then attempted in another. He was removed from the second store by store team and CPOs with advice on leaving the town.
  • 14th CPOs were called first thing to attend a phone store where a male was being very aggressive and refusing to leave after being requested by the manager. Upon arrival of the CPOs the male had left. An attempt was made to identify the person from CCTV footage but very bad pictures. Added to DISC as ID sought and reported to police via 101.
  • Street drinkers were spoken to and asked to leave the area of the bus stops on Southgate Street. They complied with this request.
  • CPO team assisted a male who had fallen over and required first aid treatment. This male was suffering from a long-term illness and an ambulance was called. The male’s wife decided that the best thing was to take him in their car, rather than wait.
  • CPOs assisted in the removal of two individuals who had decided to stay over in accommodation, when asked to leave they originally refused. The two were reported to the police, but they left the premises.
  • 15th CPOs spotted a wanted person and passed the information to the police.
  • First aid and welfare checks made on a male in a wheelchair who had been removed from a pub, and somehow managed to break the chair. CPOs were called into assist; a taxi was called but the chair would not fit in the boot. The chair was fixed, and the individual then went off to get a bus instead.
  • 16th The CPO team were asked by a city safe store to request that a male who had earlier stolen food from them move away from their doorway. This male became abusive and aggressive to the CPO team and made threats to the team, whilst the team were calling the police the person walked away. The information was conveyed to the police.
  • Many street beggars were removed during the day for demanding money from members of the public, some led to complaints to CPOs about their attitudes when refused.
  • Street drinkers were moved on during the day, mainly for begging and being asleep in a public place, or just too many in one place.
  • 17th A member of the public passed on a complaint and a matter of concern about a person who lived in the same block of flats. The CPO team checked the outside of the accommodation and decided to call the police, who took over the incident on their arrival.
  • Several groups of street drinkers were asked to move elsewhere to drink as they were in the middle of town on benches in public.
  • 18th Street drinkers and beggars were asked to move on from public areas due to their behaviour and volume of noise they were making.
  • Called to assist a bar team in the removal of a male who was very drunk who had refused to leave when requested by the manager, this male was removed, and it was found to be a male who was involved in another incident earlier in the day. CCTV monitored him out of town.
  • Welfare check carried out on a male who was found to be very upset, it appears that he and his girlfriend had just broken up. Advice given and a location to visit to speak with a qualified support worker.
  • 19th. Several cases of shoplifting dealt with, one involved a male running out of a store with alcohol, he was reported via 101. At the same time, a person who is banned from the store was removed and spoken to about being in the store. Both cases have been added to DISC.
  • Dealt with a young ten-year-old child who had his bicycle stolen from the front of a store, police were called to deal with the boy.
  • Assisted a city safe store who had detained a female for attempted theft from store. This female was processed through the yellow card system and reported to CCTV to monitor.
  • Street drinkers removed from Grey Friars area due to their behaviour and complaints received.
  • 20th CPOs assisted Police CCTV on a tasking due to an investigation.
  • CPOs involved in looking for a missing child and parents. The child was found alone and looked after until the parent was found. This incident reported directly to the police. The mother was found, and police spoke to her.
  • Two young lads on bikes were spoken to about their dangerous and bad riding through members of the public. They were advised on areas to ride and asked to leave the city area.
  • 21st CPO team attended a meeting at the North warehouse with members of the police, Council and BID members.
  • Called to deal with an individual who has mental health issues who had become very agitated. After calming him down he was advised to go home and leave the area for a while.
  • A Known shoplifter was seen leaving a store very quickly and in a suspicious manner, this person was stopped by the CPOs and after checking and clearing his bag he was allowed to continue.
  • A welfare check was conducted on a female who seemed very disorientated and was wandering around, after having a chat she claimed to be fine just very tired.
  • Several drinkers and street beggars moved on throughout the day.
  • 22nd CPOs called to an argument in Southgate Street, a male was screaming at people in a café, this individual had also been swearing at some of the beggars along that street also. The male was taken to one side and asked what it was all about, it is a domestic situation, due to his bad language he was asked to leave the area.
  • A young female was seen inside the bus station looking uncomfortable with a male, staff at the station had problems with male who was acting very strangely around other females. After talking to the male about his behaviour he left in a taxi. CCTV was informed and monitored the taxi. The young girl was spoken to, she did not know the male, he had approached her asking her age and did she want to party. She was monitored and supported until she got on her bus.
  • Called to speak to a male who was stood in the middle of the cross claiming he was in charge, and everyone should bow to him. His language was getting worse, and he seemed under the influence of something. CPOs had a word with him, and he walked of, CCTV informed and monitored him.
  • 23rd CPO team spoke to a male who was making racist comments to members of the public, he was informed by the CPOs about this behaviour not being allowed in public and that he should leave the area or risk being arrested. He chose to leave the area. The police and CCTV informed.
  • CPOs assisted the PCSOs with an eviction from Potters Place by order of the manager from the building.
  • A male was removed from one of the eating places on Westgate Street, he was cutting tags off watches and after being checked he was removed from the building.
  • 24th Many street drinkers removed several times during the day from public areas.
  • A male was caught after leaving a city safe store with alcohol, the drinks were returned to the store and all details were added to DISC.
  • Several incidents of shoplifters being deterred by CPOs and store staff. All will be added to DISC.
  • 25th A large group of street drinkers were advised to leave the area of the transport Hub doorway. They were reminded of the PSPO and asked to leave.
  • A Large group of street drinkers moved out of Grey Friars, these drinkers were also reminded of the PSPO and the police van on the 4th May being at Grey Friars to talk with them.
  • A first aid incident was dealt with by a CPO team, the person has been seen before and has ongoing medical issues. The team assisted him getting back to his home where he could be looked after.
  • A male who has a CBO banning him from town was reported, he was seen again later and removed from a city safe store. Police were informed and he was arrested.
  • CPO team were informed about a female in a wheelchair having problems, upon investigation the female had a seizure but was coming out of it, as she was with friends, she was left with them. They were advised if it takes to long for her to come round to call an ambulance.
  • 26th A known individual who is known to be Covid positive was requested to leave an area full of people with Vulnerabilities. He left the immediate area. The CPO team spoke with him and suggested he speak to other agencies who could better assist him.
  • Welfare incident where the CPO team was called to a lady who was very confused and acting strangely. On investigation the lady is known. Her grandson was called who then came and picked her up.
  • A female who had repeatedly stolen food items from the same store was caught and detained, she was processed through the yellow card system and police were called and as she is well known to them, she was arrested.
    A Male was detained in another store for stealing, he was also yellowed carded by CPOs all details for all shoplifting have been added to DISC.
  • 27th Known Street drinkers and street beggars were moved on from public areas in the city during the day, they were being a public nuisance and rude to members of the public.
  • A Male with Dementia was reported missing by his wife, after searching all local areas and stores he was found safe and well, police reunited husband and wife.
  • Known shoplifters were removed from a city safe store, all had shop bans, one of them had started to de tag a pair of trainers. All of them have been added to DISC for the breach of their bans.
  • Two males who were hiding behind a van on the Kings Square were asked to leave the area as they had been acting very strangely, when approached by the CPO team they became very aggressive, CCTV and security team informed.
  • 28th A group of street drinkers were removed from the seating in front of the transport Hub as they were very drunk and were shouting at members of the public for looking at them.
  • A store manager asked the CPO team to identify a male who had been stealing items every day from the store. The male was known, and the information was added to DISC.
  • CPO team were called to assist staff to remove a male from an eating place as he had been sat for two hours without buying anything and acting strangely. No issues the male left.
  • Approached by some members of the public about a vulnerable female who had been hit by a person, who had also tried to get them into stealing. This female is known to live in Cheltenham but has no money for a bus ticket home. P3 were informed, and they facilitated in getting her home.
  • 29th Street drinkers engaged on the graveyard, requested they move out of the area which they did.
  • An individual who was reported as being wanted by police was spotted by a CPO team and information was passed to CCTV. Police arrived and arrested the person.
  • A female shoplifter was removed from several city safe stores as she has a shop ban in place.
  • A CPO team were requested to attend the Graveyard as there was a fight in progress amongst the street drinkers, on arrival several were leaving the area, one of the females was crying but refused to talk to CPOs. The fight had finished so the drinkers were advised to stop drinking in that area.
  • A drunk older male was having an argument with a driver of a vehicle about the right of way on Northgate Street. Both were spoken with, and both moved on their way safely.
  • 30th Several street beggars were moved on during the day due to their behaviour and locations next to the cash points.
  • A male was removed from a city safe store as he was being aggressive to staff and threatening to break windows.
  • Two females were questioned by CPOs about a theft from one of the city safe stores, one of them was very vocal and aggressive towards the CPO team, the other was found to have concealed a fragrance. Details were taken and item was returned.
  • A male who has a CBO which excludes him from entering the city centre was seen and reported, police arrived and arrested this male for the breach.
  • The CPO teams assisted in the search for a missing child, the child was found quickly and returned to the parents.
  • An older lady had withdrawn a large sum of money from a bank, and it has gone missing, she was not sure if lost or stolen. She was advised to ring it through on 101. She was with a friend, and both were assisted on getting home.

£2,119.87 was recovered in stolen goods by CPOs in April 2022.
