If you’re looking for somewhere to base yourself during the Jubilee and Tall Ships weekend in Gloucester, the Lord High Constable of England pub is an ideal place.
The JD Wetherspoons pub is gearing up for a weekend of celebration with staff dressing up as pirates or royals, bunting, window dressing and charity cake sale, all to compliment the line-up of events in Gloucester Docks.
Housed in a spacious historic warehouse, the pub is one of the chain’s most attractive with a large outdoor area overlooking the waterfront and spacious indoor seating areas.
Manager Liam Stack said, ‘We are really excited about the Jubilee and Tall Ships weekend and aim to get fully involved. We’ve not had these events for three years so, for us, it almost signals the end of Covid. We’ll all be dressed up as royals or pirates and encourage our customers to dress up too!’
J D Wetherspoon was founded in 1979 and the company operates hundreds of pubs across the country. Wetherspoon is known for converting unconventional premises into pubs, such as former cinemas and banks. The pubs are also known for being somewhere to find a value pint. Liam says the unique selling point in Gloucester is also the service. ‘People walk in and say it’s very nice for a Wetherspoons! We really focus on friendly service and interaction with our regulars who include local residents, students and destination shoppers. People find us authentic and unpretentious.’
Along with a new menu and favourites returning such as Steak Club every Tuesday where you can get a steak and pint for under £10, the pub has real ales with 3 standard and 3 guest ales on tap.
The company prides itself on treating its staff well. Liam, who has been working for Wetherspoons for 20 years said, ‘If you work hard you’re rewarded. Everyone gets a free meal on shift and staff get discounts. It’s a sociable job which is simulating.’
