Kara’s Hair & Beauty have recently celebrated being a firm fixture in Gloucester high streets for 55 years.

Since 1967, Kara’s Hair & Beauty salon has been a firm fixture in Gloucester’s high street, from their humble beginnings in Northgate Street, to their salon in The Oxbode opposite the old Debenhams store and now in their beautifully featured premises on the corner of Southgate and Longsmith Street.

Established by Kara, they can boast being one of the first salons in Gloucester to introduce in the 70’s, blow drying following her husband Tom attending a yearlong training course at Vidal Sassoon in London. Tom brought back with him a number of modern techniques, which established the salon further as the place to go in the city centre for latest trends, as well as still catering for their more traditional client needs.

They are unique in being able to pride themselves on having a number of staff and clients who have stayed with them for best part of their 5 decades in business. They have seen some of their children and now grandchildren coming into train and have their hair and beauty needs met too.

Over the years, they have grown their services to include piercings and beauty. They have recently created a bespoke Barber Shop on their ground level, which recreates the traditional ambience of male grooming.

Now run by Kara’s son’s Adrian and Karl, for the last 8 years, they are keen to keep the legacy alive, as a family run, independent business in the heart of Gloucester.

Co-owner Adrian Ball comments, “We are very proud of what our parents achieved all those years ago. Our passion for the industry, our clients and Gloucester itself is always at the forefront of our minds.”

“We’re looking forward to seeing another generation of stylists coming through and serving the people of Gloucester for at least another 55 years!”

January brings an exciting opportunity to buy a whole host of wonderful styling products, including GHD’s straighteners, as well as a range of gift vouchers, all available at Kara’s.
