City centre ban after man subjects shoppers and police to abuse by | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/A man who was abusive to shoppers and police has been banned from Gloucester city centre for the next 12 months.
Christopher Grant, aged 34 and of Nettleton Road, Gloucester, was served with a civil anti-social behaviour injunction (ASBI) at Cheltenham and Gloucester County Court on 8 February.
It followed numerous incidents during which Grant has verbally and physically abused members of the public and police officers.
The case was brought against Grant by the Solace team. Solace is a joint team of officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary, Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucester City Council.
Street Aware Lead Officer Adam Stevens, of Solace, said: “Grant’s continued behaviour in the city is totally unacceptable.
“Numerous agencies are involved in supporting Grant, but despite this, his aggressive and violent behaviour continued.
“This order was sought in an effort to curtail the behaviours and to provide some protection and respite to those working, living and visiting our city.”
Sergeant Andrew Doyle, of Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Grant has been a cause for concern in the city and, despite efforts to support and prevent repeat behaviour, has continued to cause problems.
“We work closely with our partners in Solace and City Safe to ensure that action is taken to target individuals involved in anti-social behaviour and ensure our community feel safe.”
The civil injunction order imposed by the courts forbids Grant from:
- Entering the exclusion zone within Gloucester city centre;
- Engaging in conduct that causes or is capable of causing alarm or harassment or distress to any person within the city of Gloucester;
- Using, or threatening to use, violence against any person in the city of Gloucester.
Anyone witnessing Grant breaching his ASBI is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 or the Solace team on 01452 396396.
