Independent businesses are so important. They are the personality in any place and bring to life the diversity of the city!

Independents account for around 65% of the approximately 290,000 retail outlets in the UK and are at the heart of local communities throughout the country. They offer choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a more personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies.

Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) will be celebrating the independent businesses in Gloucester this year by putting together a campaign that promotes the various industries we have here: Shopping, Food & Drink, Health & Beauty, Leisure and Services.

The aim of the campaign will be to encourage local consumers to get involved with Independents Week (1st-8th July), encouraging more visits to, exploring, enjoying and the use of local independent businesses. They can even nominate their favourite!

Local independent businesses will be getting involved to back the campaign and will be offering a variety of promotions, including 2 for 1 at VR Experience, 10% off at Gloucester Brewery and Tank, a hot drink & cake half price at The Comfy Pew, plus many more! There’s still time for businesses to get involved. Let us know here.

Emily Gibbon, Business Manager at Gloucester BID says, “Independent businesses are the life and soul of our city. We would like to celebrate them not just this Independents Day, but for the whole week, as we have a lot to shout about!”

“Many are small businesses, who don’t have the financial backing or support unlike larger multinationals, so let’s showcase our fabulous independents in our wonderful city!”
