ATTRACTIVE AND VIBRANT CITY
FROM HANGING BASKETS TO EFFECTIVE SIGNAGE LINKING PARTS OF THE CITY. PLUS SUPPORT AND PROMOTION FOR THE EVER-GROWING EVENTS SCENE IN GLOUCESTER.
IMPROVEMENTS TO BID AREA
From hanging baskets to effective signage linking parts of the city and improvements to the public realm. Gloucester BID will spend money on making the BID area more attractive.Â
Any improvements made will be in addition to those already supported by the city council and will not be a replacement for current services but will be in addition to those already provided.
HANGING BASKETS AND PLANTERS
We have introduced splashes of colour throughout the city centre in the summer.
The addition of flowering throughout the city since 2018 has brought colour and nature to Gloucester. This year, May 2021, we will be looking into bee friendly flowers.
CITY DRESSING
The installation of lamp-post flags around the city have been used to raise awareness of events and their sponsors and added to the city’s vibrancy.
The flag-trax system has made it quick to install this element of city dressing to Gloucester, with nearly 100 flags being able to appear in 48 hours. We will be looking at re-dressing the city for various festivals and events, working with other parties and sponsors.Â
HIGH STREET HERITAGE ACTION ZONE
Lead by Gloucester City Council, the Catherdral Quarter project is now running for the next 4 years.
”The Heritage Action Zone will capitalise on Westgate’s untapped potential and boost the number of people living, working and taking pride in the area. The award of up to £1.9m to Gloucester City Council will invest in Westgate Street’s beautiful historic buildings, repairing buildings and historic shopfronts and converting vacant upper floors for new uses. There will be advice and support for businesses in historic properties, and the streetscape will be improved with new signage and branding. The area will be vibrant with cultural activities, from community archaeology to performing arts, and will become known for its attractive evening and night-time offer. The Heritage Action Zone will help Westgate thrive again by bringing a modern business approach to an outstanding historic environment.” Historic England
Gloucester BID will be working to increase the awareness of this project and the opportunities for businesses within the area. One major priority is improved signage, and this is a high priority for the city centre.
BEING GREEN
There is a need for places to be more green, and by everyone doing just one thing and do a lot for the climate.
Following the installation of one recycling bin on Southgate Street, we are looking into adding 12 more dual purpose bins to the gate streets (these will replace general waste bins already in situ). This is in partnership with Gloucester City Council to install plastic bottle and can recycling in the city centre.
SUPPORTINGÂ & PROMOTING EVENTS
The events and festivals in Gloucester are rapidly developing a reputation regionally and nationally and are established favourites locally. Over the last few years numerous events have added vibrancy – boosting reputation and footfall for the whole city.
Gloucester BID will support and promote city centre events that increase footfall and encourage visitors.
DIGITAL ADVERTISING
Working with Gloucester Culture Trust, as part of the Great Places Project, there will be the opportunity to advertise on 4 digital totems and a large screen in the Transport Hub.
Gloucester BID has worked with Gloucester City Council, award-winning One Digital Signage and Mass Media to install the digital platforms in the city. There are BID member rates for purchasing advertising space, allowing the message to be local.
