In celebration of International Women’s Day, on the 8th of March, the Museum of Gloucester is launching a new initiative to showcase the contributions of local Gloucester women in everyday life.
The project will feature portraits of 100 heroic women taken by 100 women photographers, to be displayed at the Museum in a special exhibition in December 2022. It is in collaboration with Hundred Heroines, a local charity focused on advancing awareness of women in photography through exhibitions and events.
Hundred Heroines believe ‘Heroines’ challenge our worldview, social boundaries and artistic expression. The project aims to highlight the significant contribution women make in society and the visual arts by building a live archive to increase public appreciation of their work.
As part of the initiative, the public should nominate a local heroine and share their image with the tag #100GlosHeroines or online at www.MuseumOfGloucester.co.uk/HundredHeroines.
A special performance by Thembe Mvula, a South African-British renowned poet, writer and filmmaker, will also be hosted at the Guildhall on International Women’s Day at 7pm. After the performance, there will be a preview screening of BAFTA-nominated Clio Barnards new contemporary love story, Ali & Ava.
