We’re fast approaching the May half-term school holidays, plus another bank holiday, and Gloucester city centre will be a hive of activity for children of all ages!
Don your gown, fix your crown and get selfie ready on the throne fit for a King or Queen at Gloucester Cathedral in their ‘Lights, Camera, Coronation!’
For the sports mad children, there will be lots of activities at GL1 Leisure Centre; including swimming, gymnastics, tennis, Lunar City, soft play, plus many more!
Join the Soldier Skills Challenge Trail at Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum. Testing both strong mind and body, the trail culminates with a child friendly shooting test! Aimed at children aged 6-12. Additionally, on Monday 29th May, they will have their Redcoat soldier re-enactor who can tell you even more about being in the army. On Tuesday 30th May, they will have their team outside (11am-1pm) who will be testing your skills even more.
It’s Mission Support Day on Saturday, 27th May, between 10am-2pm, at Midlands Air Ambulance Charity in Eastgate Shopping Centre. Join them for an open day of free activities at their Gloucester shop. Also, learn lifesaving skills in CPR and bleed control, take part in a Q&A with their crew and enter their colouring competition.
For LEGO Lovers, head down to Gloucester Library between 11am – 12pm for their LEGO Club, now taking place every Saturday!
See the Gloucester Civic Trust Jubilee Parade, where Civic Trust members will be dressed in historic costumes and parade through Gloucester to raise their profile in the City. They have something to be proud of, as they have been saving Gloucester’s heritage for 50 years! Starting at 2pm from St Mary De Crypt.
Gloucester Quays will be hosting Britain’s Strongest Master and the Official England’s Strongest Man Qualifier on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May 2023. The strongest men from all over the country descend on Gloucester Quays to take on epic challenges like the Atlas Stones, Viking Walk and deadlifts in front of a live audience, promising a weekend of thrilling family entertainment.
Things are going to get pretty wild at the National Waterways Museum. On Wednesday 31st May Jonathan’s Jungle Roadshow will be joining them for the day, and visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of some absolutely amazing reptiles and amphibians.
How about The Wild Escape at the Museum of Gloucester, on Thursday 1st June? Make colourful wings & habitats with wild recycled materials and find the Wild Isles animals trails!
Later on Thursday, ‘Read With Me’ will be at Gloucester Cathedral for a special edition of the ‘Not So Secret Book Club’. Come along to this free event and take part in some Cathedral inspired crafts, suitable for all ages. There will be free books available for everyone, as well as story time and other fun activities. A great way to entertain the kids, from tinies to teens, during half-term!
You can join the Bug Hunt at the Museum of Gloucester on Friday 2nd June between 10am-3pm. Decorate your own magnifying glass at the Museum then make your way to the Blackfriars Medieval Priory on a walk inspired by nature followed by some recycled art making!
The eclectic Orchard Street Market will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June 2023, which sees some of the finest artisans in the south west come to the Quays, selling everything from local cheeses and home-baked cakes to quirky homewares and vintage clothing. With tasty street food to tuck into and a buzzing atmosphere, it’s a great family day out down at the docks.
Cineworld Gloucester, will be showing a range of family-friendly films during half-term, including Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Plus, the new Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse film debuts on screens Thursday 1st June!
With the weather set to get even hotter, why not bring the kids’ towels and swimming costumes to enjoy the fountains in King’s Square whilst you enjoy a relax in the sun with family and friends.
