Based in the heart of Gloucester Docks, the newly reimagined well-known waterside retreat, has added some exciting new additions to their offering this Autumn.
Following a successful reopening earlier this summer, with a complete design overhaul by renowned restaurant group ART HOSPITALITY (formerly A Rule of Tum), the new menu launch and special nights are a welcome addition to the city’s newest gastro pub.
A new menu has recently launched with a selection of gorgeous warming dishes, perfectly timed for visitors to enjoy the cosy season. Tasty additions to the menu include a steak pie and bangers and mash, made using the finest local ingredients. Another menu star to highlight is the delicious and Sunday roast selection. Offering Rare Roast Top Rump, Rare Breed Pork Belly, Slow Roasted Lamb, Bertha Roasted Courgette Wellington, and a Lil’ Roast for the kids, all served with delectable sides, there is something for everyone to enjoy on a perfectly Autumnal Sunday with family or friends.
It’s no surprise that the new menu offers a selection of delicious dishes with Dr. Foster in the safe hands of renowned Executive Chef Callum McDonald, who has worked with a wide range of Michelin chefs across the country, before joining the ART HOSPITALITY team at award winning The Bookshop in Hereford.
Butcher’s Dock Steak Nights have also recently launched every Thursday evening from 6pm, where diners can enjoy an 8oz Butcher’s choice steak, classic pub chips and choice of sauce – all for a reasonably priced £15. The trusted local butcher, Heggie’s, will select a prime cut each week, depending on what is available, which is a way to help encourage a no waste policy and make use of good quality local meat, cooked to perfection over coals at Dr. Foster.
Tap Takeovers are now running every Wednesday, with a spotlight on a different local brewery, each week. Visitors will be treated to a talk from the Brewery, followed by a hand-picked selection of Beers and Ales, priced at just £3 per pint. For diners, a special ‘Pie and Pint’ deal at £15 will also be available on Wednesday’s, a welcome winter warmer deal for locals to enjoy.  Local Brewery’s taking part in the Tap Takeovers include Wye Valley, Stroud Brewery and Gloucester Brewery.
Other events for the diary include the monthly Big Pub Quiz, which will be taking place at 7pm on Tuesday 22nd October, 19th November and 17th December. Trivia-lovers can head down to Dr. Foster to enjoy the monthly quiz, good food and pints with friends. Entry is £2 per person and teams can be made up of two to eight people, with various prizes up for grabs, including Dr. Foster vouchers.
Entertainment fans will be happy to hear that Live Music can be enjoyed every other Friday in the ground floor bar. Taking place from 9-10.30pm from 18th October, with a range of popular local bands and singers.
With the festive period just around the corner, it’s definitely not too early to book in Christmas get togethers with friends and family. Dr. Foster’s Christmas menu will be available from 29th November, priced at £29.50pp for two courses and £34.50pp for three courses, with classic mains such as Free-Range Turkey to delve in to, as well as an alternative Slow Braised Hereford Beef, Salt Shetland Cod and a vegetarian option, Roast Celeriac, Wild Mushroom & Leek Wellington. All to be enjoyed alongside fabulously festive tipples.
Dr. Foster offers a gorgeous private dining space for office parties to family celebrations, and a hot festive buffet is available alongside this. Priced from £18.50pp, offering a seasonal selection of warm food including more casual dishes such as sage and pork sausage rolls, truffle macaroni cheese topped with a herb crumb and something sweet to finish – mince pie brownies!
