Appeal for witnesses after man arrested for brandishing knife on Barton Street in Gloucester

Officers investigating an incident involving a knife on Barton Street in Gloucester are appealing for witnesses.

It happened on Wednesday 14 September at around 5pm, when a man threatened another man with a knife. The victim ran to Barton Street Police Station for help and was not injured.

Meanwhile, the offender walked towards Sainsbury’s Local and put the knife in his pocket. Police promptly attended and arrested the man in the store, who was shouting racially abusive language at the time. A knife was also seized.

A 31-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and racially aggravated disorder. He was bailed until 14 October pending further enquiries.

This is thought to be an isolated incident with no wider threat or risk to the general public.

Witnesses have been spoken to at the scene but police are still appealing for anyone else in the area at the time who saw what happened to come forward.

In particular, two men standing at the bus stop are thought to have witnessed the incident and they are urged to contact police and help with enquiries.
