The incident happened at around 3am on Saturday 13 August. A 39-year-old woman met a man on Sinope Street. A short time later he seriously sexually assaulted her in the vicinity of the playground next to Widden Primary School.
The offender is described as white and had an Eastern European accent. He was aged in his mid to late twenties, 5 foot 4 in height and of a stocky, muscular build. He had short mousey hair, a flattened nose and was wearing a ripped light, blue t-shirt and blue jeans.
DI Dave Shore-Nye, of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team at Gloucestershire Constabulary, said: “We are treating this incident very seriously and urge anyone with information to come forward.
“We are particularly appealing for two men to contact us who came to the victim’s aid after the incident. They may have information which can help us with our enquiries.
“We understand an incident of this nature can cause concern within the local community, but we wish to reassure members of the public that we are doing all we can to trace the person responsible.”
