If you’re looking to invest in some new garden furniture this spring and get it delivered quickly, take a look at the new quality range at G&W furniture in Gloucester.
The long-standing family business has five different sets in the garden furniture range which they can get to you within a week of ordering. G&Ws huge shop and store room on Southgate Street means you get to view a great range of furniture brands ready to go.
G&W stocks quality living, dining, bedroom and home office furniture in a range of brands including Stressless, Parker Knoll, G Plan and Hypnos. The sister store in Worcester is slightly smaller, whereas the Gloucester store has a warehouse which enables faster delivery on a vast range of goods within a 50-mile radius.
Owner David Wood has been based in the Gloucester store since 1975 and has seen a lot of changes over the years: both in the surrounding area and within the furniture trade. He said, ‘Things have changed a lot in Gloucester. When we arrived the Royal Infirmary was next door and Gloucester Docks was derelict. It really has changed dramatically and boosted our business.’
David is optimistic for future plans in Gloucester, he said, ‘Past developments have increased footfall and so new changes will bring even more. We get a lot of footfall with people going from the docks into by the city centre so it’s an important area for us.’
Within the furniture trade, David has seen changes too, ‘Customers want a lot more contemporary furniture. Years ago, people were very traditional; dark oak was a favourite for example, whereas now lighter furniture is more popular. Despite a more modern world desiring continual home improvement, our furniture is made to last and we have repeat customers and a mailing list of over 13,000 people who get special offers.’
David runs G&W with his wife and son along with loyal staff members. He started out in newspaper management but decided to open his businesses in Worcester and Gloucester in the 70s as he wanted his own business. David said, ‘London may look very glamourous, but when you’re living in a rat-race, you don’t want that for the rest of life. We started in Worcester but then bought the near derelict building here in Gloucester and over the years we have renovating the building.’
Along with all the furniture, the G&W building houses a roman wall which customers and visitors are welcome to go and see.
