Described as a ‘tucked away secret café’ Spago Creperia in Bakers Quay is a hidden gem offering delicious fresh food in a cosy atmosphere.
Owners Mishka and Pavol opened the business during the 2020 lockdown and adapted by offering takeaways and honing their offer. Now Spago, which specialises in hand crafted crepes and authentic tapas from Spain, is going from strength to strength with a loyal customer base and rave reviews.
Mishka and Pavol met 21 years ago while studying hospitality in their home country of Slovakia. The couple always knew they wanted to own a café or restaurant, so when Pavol’s brother came up with the idea of a creperie, they got on board. Mishka’s parents live in Andorra and she loves tapas – two ideas become one and Spago was born.
The original Spago in Slovakia runs to the same business model, and the company is very much family run and unique. Mishka said, ‘There is a lot of Spanish influence, but we have a little bit of everything European. Our main selling point is that everything is homemade and fresh.’
Spago’s loyal customers follow them on social media and write 5-star reviews! Many describe it as a hidden gem along with being, ‘one of the best places for fresh, delicious crepes.’ Also having, ‘brilliant service and a cosy relaxed atmosphere.’ Mishka said, ‘Once you’re running your business, you have to put everything into it and have a passion for it. This is how we feel here, and we love that our customers come back time and time again.’
On the menu at Spago, you’ll find a range of sweet and savoury crepes along with tapas and platters to share. There is also a large variety of drinks including Frizzantte on tap and worldwide favourite Vermouth. Spanish beers and ciders are on offer as well as a specially selected wine list along with a selection of non-alcoholic options.
