If you haven’t yet been tempted into The Candle Tree by the beautiful scent wafting down College Street, then this week might be a good time to visit.
You’ll find unusual and special gifts at The Candle Tree to show your appreciation and love this Mother’s Day. It’s a shop which draws visitors from afar due to some of the specialist products, such as the beautiful French Market Savon de Marseille soaps.
The Candle Tree started in 2015 in a beautiful location in the Forest of Dean. In 2017 owner Sandra relocated The Candle Tree to its current location on College Street Gloucester, next to the main entrance to Gloucester Cathedral. She said, ‘Initially it was only going to be temporary, but I was overjoyed when people came to my shop to buy goods that I provided. I gained customers who kept coming back; having loyal customers is the joy of the business.’
Initially, Sandra sold candles and soaps as they are items she always enjoyed, ‘I like candles and soaps – they allow for pampering ‘me-time’ and self-care. Since opening the shop, I’ve done a lot of research on our soaps from France along with the candles. I like sustainable products and the ethics behind producers who prioritise simplicity in their brands.’
The Candle Tree is proud to specialise in quality soap, stocking a large range of delightful natural soaps of all shapes and sizes and with fragrances to suit all. The long-standing favourites are the French Market soaps which are traditionally made and super-hydrating. The soaps have pride of place in the shop and the scent variety – from rose, lavender and lime to wheat germ, woody amber and patchouli will keep you deciding for a while! Sandra said, ‘They are displayed in a beautiful traditional wooden glass cabinet which compliments these classic French soaps. Just looking at the beautiful array of colours, so prettily presented lifts our mood and the gorgeous scents soothes our senses. Come and take your pick, you’ll be sure to find favourite!’
The Candle Tree has gradually expanded the starting range of candles and soaps to other products such as cards, jewellery, stationery and clothing accessories. All new products follow careful research and/or suggestions from customers. The newest addition to The Candle Tree is a range of New English Teas: a wonderful collection of tea gifts and tea tins, each packed with world-renowned tea and perfect for tea lovers.
You’ll find The Candle Tree on one of Gloucester’s most picturesque streets leading to the cathedral. Sandra is always welcoming and very knowledgeable about her products and we highly recommend a visit! Sandra said, ‘Gloucester has hidden gems. I’ve heard it described ‘like a sleeping giant’ and I agree: Gloucester has so much to offer if you want to see it.’
