Waterstones Gloucester has the most ‘community vibe’ according to its manager Becky Kelly.
She said, ‘I’ve worked in seven different Waterstones, and I’ve never known anywhere to have such a loyal customer base as Gloucester. It’s because of the atmosphere; this one seems to have the most community vibe. We know lots of customers by name, people come in for a chat and to visit the café.’
Waterstones Gloucester is a wonderful friendly bookshop on Eastgate Street. The two-storey shop is home to a fantastic selection of books, stationery, gifts and toys. They have an amazing children’s department and friendly, knowledgeable booksellers who love to share their passion for books with you.
Manager Becky said, ‘At Waterstones, we pride ourselves on our book knowledge: our staff are real book lovers. We love talking to people about books. Waterstones puts us through an induction programme in each section and different staff have different specialisms. Anyone who doesn’t love books probably hasn’t found the right book yet. We would love you to come in and be inspired!’
Along with a friendly atmosphere, Waterstones Gloucester raises money for local charities. Last Christmas the branch and its customers donated books to the charity Community Foster Care. Becky said, ‘We decided to have a ‘Giving Tree’ where customers could donate to buy books for children in foster care. It was so successful we ended up wrapping 160 gifts for the children. We’re hoping it will turn some of them into readers.
