The countdown is on for Gloucester’s free three-day Folk Trail when the city will be alive with activity!
Venues across the city will attract folk fans from across the country during the Folk Trail from Friday 18th February to Sunday 20th February. The annual event coincides with the return of Gloucester Bright Nights where visitors can enjoy breath-taking illuminated art installations. The Gate Streets will also be filled with the merriment of Morris dancers during the weekend.
Gloucester Folk Trail returns to in-person events after last year’s online experience. Gloucester businesses, including: Cafe Rene, The Fountain Inn, Angie’s Bar and The Tall Ship pub can’t wait to host folk musicians and artists from around the county. Acts in the event include: Alex Davies, Bill Crasswell, Blackthorn Buskers, Blind River Scare, Chez Dunford.
Music and arts workshops, which cost a small fee, including broom dancing, guitar workshop and wood craft will also be running at venues including, Gloucester Guildhall, Gloucester Waterways Museum and St Mary de Crypt.
Morris dancers will be performing Saturday 19th 11am-3pm at various spots in the city.
There will be an element of the Folk Trail online including storytelling.
The Gloucester Folk Trail, launched by business improvement body Gloucester BID, first arrived in the city in 2018. Gloucester BID Manager Emily Gibbon said, ‘It’s wonderful to have the Folk Trail back again especially in person. There are so many bands coming which we can’t wait to see and it’s lovely to see the streets alive with Morris dancers and the public. A big thanks to all the venues involved including those who are hosting workshops such as St Mary de Crypt and the Guildhall. We can’t wait to see you there!’
Gloucester Bright Nights events include: Luma: a giant illuminated snail at Gloucester Cathedral on 18 & 19 February. Windows Through Time: 14 February – 1 March, Westgate Street – Award Winning Local artist, Jack Wimperis will be creating a new artwork for audiences to enjoy on Westgate Street, which will highlight the colourful past of this vibrant area.
