EU Referendum – use your vote, it is your right by Kate | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/Tomorrow polling stations across the UK will open for people to cast their vote for the EU referendum and Gloucester City Council is reminding people across Gloucester to take part.
Polling stations will open on the 23rd June at 7am and close at 10pm. Whatever your political views, it is important that you use your right to vote at all elections.
If you are eligible to vote you will have been sent a polling card telling you the date and time of the referendum and the address of your polling station.
For those who have not registered to vote, you will not be able to register in time for the referendum, but can register to vote at future elections at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
If you have applied for a postal or proxy vote, please follow the information sent to you and remember that you can hand your completed postal vote pack into any polling station in Gloucester City if you have not already returned it by post. Otherwise, you should go to the polling station stated on your poll card on the 23rd June during the hours shown on the card. You can show the polling station staff your poll card, but you do not need it to vote.
You will be asked to provide your name and address to the staff, who will double check you are on the register. As the referendum is the only vote happening on the 23rdJune, you will be given one ballot paper, which will have instructions on it about how to cast your vote.
Once inside the polling booth you can cast your vote, and are advised to fold the ballot paper so your vote remains private.
If you are not sure what to do, ask the polling station staff to help you, but do not let anyone see your vote.
Jon McGinty, counting officer at Gloucester City Council, said: “The referendum tomorrow is a historic event as people are asked to consider the future of our participation in the EU.
“This is such an important decision, and as such, I hope that the voter turnout tomorrow in Gloucester is as high as possible.”
