First phase of Elmbridge roundabout a success by Shaun Moore | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/The second phase of the Elmbridge Court roundabout improvements kicks off first thing Monday morning. Crews will focus on widening the approach lanes and the A40 Golden Valley exit.
Throughout the first phase crews have worked on digging up the existing road and positioning the new hamburger lane. Utility companies have also begun their work, the foundations for the new subway have started and the draining system is underway.
On Monday, as the second phases starts, the inner ring closure around Elmbridge will be completely lifted and reopened as focus moves on to the approaching lanes of the roundabout.
Over the next six weeks works move away from the centre of the roundabout, and the approaching lanes on both the southbound and northbound A40 Northern bypass will be narrowed.
No lane closures will be in place at the roundabout between 7am and 9am. However, the current single lane closure on the southbound A40 Northern Bypass approach, just before the roundabout, will be reclosed after 9am so these works can be carried out safely.
Elmbridge Court roundabout is one of the busiest junctions in the county. These much needed improvements will help relieve congestion, save commuters time and allow traffic to flow more smoothly.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Elmbridge roundabout is already starting to take great shape. The crews have worked tremendously hard to complete the first phase and make sure that we’re on track for September next year.
“I’d like to thank road users for the patients they’ve shown whilst we carry out the works. The improvements to this roundabout will be significant and improve the traffic flow at one of the busiest junctions in Gloucestershire.”
The £7million investment work on the Elmbridge Court roundabout is on track for completion in September 2017.
