Gloucester business owners are being invited to have their say about street drinkers in the city.
A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) is in existence in Gloucester City Centre which bans anyone from drinking alcohol in a public space. This includes on the streets, in a park or any other public space within the city centre area.
However, Gloucester BID and City Safe are interested in hearing about whether businesses in the city feel that street drinking is a problem and if they feel this is being tackled in the city. They are being invited to complete a short survey to share any experiences of people drinking alcohol in the street.
Feedback from business owners will help to provide evidence in continuing to push for a plan into responding to problematic street drinking across the city in the future.
Manager of Gloucester City Safe Steve Lindsay said, ‘For everyone living, working in, or visiting our generally very safe and welcoming city centre, we want to minimise alcohol-related crime and nuisance. We can address these unacceptable anti-social challenges using a range of measures which include the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which needs to be delivered through a multi-agency approach. From speaking to businesses and the public in the city, it is the view of the businesses myself and the City Protection Officers that street drinking has increased.’
‘I urge all businesses, visitors and residents to please contribute by completing the survey to help us push to address alcohol-related crime and nuisance in the city centre.’
