The Gloucester Folk Trail is back for another packed year, taking place from February 14th to 16th, 2025. Audiences can immerse themselves in the vibrant traditions of folk music, dance and arts, all set against the historic backdrop of Gloucester.
Over three days, the city will come to life with live music performances, Morris dancing, workshops and craft activities, bringing together talented musicians, poets and artisans from across the county and country. With events hosted at multiple venues around the city, the Gloucester Folk Trail offers something for everyone—from seasoned folk enthusiasts to families looking for a unique cultural experience.
This event is made possible through the generous support of local businesses, venues and the Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID), which remains dedicated to enriching the city’s vibrant arts and cultural scene.
With over 10 venues hosting a folk act, or more there is going to be a great feeling of folk in the air. Many of the venues have been part of the festival since it began, but this year we welcome Dr Foster, Hop Kettle and The Thirsty Pine on to the trail.
“As folklore goes, Dr Foster stepped in a puddle, but this year we’re excited to be stepping into Gloucester’s Folk Trail. We’re thrilled to be included in this year’s trail, hosting a lineup of folk music, and can’t wait to share the spirit of Gloucester with everyone who visits.” Adam Edney, Dr Foster.
The Pelican Inn has been involved with the Folk Trail for a few years and is a regular host to a post-morris session. The most recent occurring was on Boxing Day after four Morris sides performed in front of the Cathedral, a tradition that has been happening in Gloucester for many years.
“The Gloucester Folk Trail is one of the most joyful events on the calendar. It brings together so many local businesses to showcase genuine local musical talent. As a venue, The Pelican has been involved for the last couple of years with an ambition to be involved forevermore. When Gloucester pulls together, wondrous things are possible.” Mike Hall, The Pelican Inn

Martin Vogwell, musician and performer in the band Bewelian, one of the many acts performing at this year’s Folk Trail, says, “Gloucester Folk Trail brings a community of musicians, and music lovers, together from Gloucester and further afield to celebrate the rich traditions of the county in the wonderful backdrop of our city. Bewelian is a band looking back to our heritage whilst talking inspiration from the vibrant culture of today, and Gloucester is a city that encapsulates the essence of what we do.”
