The Gloucester Shanty festival and Pirate Walk have been confirmed alongside the well anticipated return of the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival.
The Gloucester BID funded event will be part of exciting events planned across the city for the Tall Ships and Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend 3-5th June. The Gloucester Shanty Festival performers are encouraged to sing on the streets of Gloucester especially decorated for the Jubilee. An impressive line-up of acclaimed acts will be performing in various venues around the city centre.
Along with all the singing, little and large pirates are welcome to join the Pirate Walk on Saturday 4 June at 4pm from Café Rene. Join the lively dressed-up jaunt around the city centre raising funds for the Severn Area Rescue Association. It’s a great chance for all the family to join in with the frolics for Gloucester Sea Shanty Festival and Tall Ships.
The 14 shanty acts that have been confirmed so far are: Friggitt, Blackthorn Buskers, Kings Shilling Shanty, Gloucester Diamonds, Shanty Time, ReBil, Spinnaker Shanty, High and Dry Shanty, Debra Hannis, Brian of Holcombe, Shropshire Boatmen, Rod Penlington, LocTup and The Steepholmers. Venues: The Fountain Inn, Cafe Rene, The Tall Ship, The Imperial Inn, Pilgrims Yard.
Organiser Jojo Roche said, ‘We are looking forward to bringing the Shanty festival back this year and for the streets and venues to be alive with merriment and madness! It’s great to add the event into the city’s calendar once again and welcome back crews from all over the country for a weekend of maritime fun.’
