Alastair Kerr, South West Regional Representative, Campaign for Pubs

“When I talk about pubs, I am often reminded of how William Blake once described them ‘A good local pub has much in common with a church, except that a pub is warmer, and there’s more conversation’.

Gloucester is a fantastic city that can boast with great pride, some absolutely fantastic pubs that all offer something for everyone. Whether your taste is in live music, a quiet pint with a newspaper or a lover of craft beer This city has it!”

When you support your local Indies not only are you assured of great personal service but you know that the investment you make with them comes straight back into the local community. Independent businesses, often run by families, are very proud to be part of their community and employ local staff and use as many local suppliers as possible as well. So not only do they want their own businesses to thrive but they want their community to prosper as well and the more support we can all give them the more chance they will be able to serve us for many years to come,
There are the great pub institutions of our city, from Cafe Rene with its live music, to the real ale heaven that is The Pelican. Excellent food with great service then there is the Fountain. There are too many brilliant pubs to mention that this city can be proud of, from The Turks Head to Angies, TANK to The Robert Raikes, and so on. But rest assured, that there is a pub for every occasion and for everyone.

My advice to you on this celebration of our independent businesses including our pubs is simple. Support them or loose them! They are the beating hearts of our city, community and in general a great place to be, Cheers!” –
