On the 13th of May, Polish Association Gloucestershire and Polish Academy invite the local community to celebrate Polish culture, traditions and history. The festival originated in 2017 to commemorate the Day of the National Flag and the Day of Poles and Polish Diaspora Abroad, falling on the 2nd of May.
This year we will highlight the achievements of Polish cryptologists in the battle against German’s Enigma cypher machine before and during World War II.
The event will start at 12pm at Kings Square with a jam-packed programme to include local talent performances, Polish folk dancers, martial arts shows and music concerts. The renowned Polish singer Ewelina Flinta concert will be the event highlight. She has enchanted the audience with her voice for over 20 years.
Maciej Stanke, Headteacher of the Polish Academy, highlighted the importance of celebrating Polish heritage and Polish-British connections. “Polish people have a rich cultural heritage, and we are proud to share it with the wider community in Gloucester. This event is a great opportunity to celebrate our cultural connections with the United Kingdom and showcase the contributions of the Polish community to wider society.”
Aviation fans will be pleased with Laguna’s Spitfire Legacy exhibition. Traditional Polish food, including Pierogi (dumplings) and Kielbasa (sausage), will be available among many other stalls presenting local organisations, artists and businesses. The rich children’s entertainment will be provided throughout the day.
Polish Heritage Day will be a fantastic event celebrating the richness of Polish culture and its contributions to the United Kingdom. The festival has been supported by Gloucestershire County Council, Timports, Polish Embassy in London, Gloucester City Council, Better Together – Gloucestershire Constabulary and Gloucester BID. Do not miss this opportunity to learn about and celebrate Polish heritage in Gloucester.
Jaro Kubaszczyk, Chairman of the Polish Association Gloucestershire, invites everyone to join the festivities: “We are thrilled to mark this occasion and bring this fantastic celebration to Kings Square. We welcome everyone to join us for a day packed with music, dance, food, and history.”
