Handmade arts, crafts and all sorts besides will be on offer in Gloucester’s Westgate Street this week as a new market makes only its second appearance in the city.
The Cathedral Quarter Makers’ Market will feature vibrant stalls selling lovingly crafted, one-of-a-kind gifts and wares after a successful first attempt back in August.
There’s a rich variety on offer, including jewellery, candles, book binding and hand-dyed yarn – and in keeping with the month of Halloween, a live demonstration of how to weave a willow coffin.
The market is organised by Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID), in partnership with the Cathedral Quarter, the high street heritage action zone for Gloucester funded by Historic England to restore architecturally notable buildings to their former glory.
Emily Gibbon, Gloucester BID manager, said: “The first Makers’ Market in the summer was really well received so we’re delighted to once again be supporting it and I’m looking forward to seeing some beautiful handmade arts and crafts on offer – it’s also perfectly timed to pick up some unique Christmas gifts for loved ones.”
Stallholders have been encouraged to decorate their pitches in support of two other Gloucester events happening this weekend – Apple Day and a new trail in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the Tailor of Gloucester. More information on both will be available at the stalls.
The Makers’ Market runs on Friday (10am-3pm) and Saturday (10am-4pm).
