Mecca Bingo has confirmed its Gloucester venue will close down next month.

The company took to social media to confirm the bingo hall on Eastgate Street would close after 46 years.

In a statement, Mecca Bingo said: “We’re very sad to confirm that Mecca Gloucester will be closing, and we want to say a huge thank you to every single one of our incredible customers for their loyalty and support for the last 46 years.”

“Please bear with us while we all adjust to the news, but feel free to pop in and have a chat.”

“We’ll keep you updated here on what our plans are for the coming weeks and when we have a confirmed closing date in August.”

Mecca is based at 54 Eastgate Street and was originally the independently operated Plaza Super Cinema which opened in November 1935. In January 1956, it was taken over by Circuits Management Association, which soon became the Rank Organisation. The cinema was modernised and renamed Odeon in January 1957.

The Odeon closed at the end of August 1975 and was later converted to a Top Rank Bingo Club.
