Gloucester Quays have replaced their existing gift card with their city’s local gift card. Over 160 businesses now accept the Gloucester Gift Card, which is designed to drive footfall and encourage local spending.
Gloucester Quays, is now accepting the city’s local gift card across its 60 stores, restaurants and cinema, taking the total number of businesses accepting the Gloucester Gift Card to 160.
The partnership between Gloucester Quays and the Gloucester Gift Card is the first instance of a shopping outlet replacing its gift card with an existing local gift card program.
M&S, Le Creuset, North Face, Adidas, Reiss, FatFace, Wagamama and Cineworld are some of the brands at Gloucester Quays where people can now spend their Gloucester Gift Card, in addition to national brands and independent businesses in the city.
Lauren Hopkins is Associate Marketing Director at Peel Retail & Leisure and said the partnership allows recipients of the Gloucester Gift Card to shop the whole of Gloucester:
“Gloucester Quays is the premium shopping outlet of the South West, with over 70% off RRP. When reviewing our existing gift card offering, we took the opportunity to work alongside Gloucester BID and replace our existing gift card with the Gloucester Gift Card. All of our stores and restaurants now accept the Gloucester Gift Card as payment. It gives people the ability to shop the whole of Gloucester with a single gift card. That is an enticing offering, especially for organisations wishing to reward their staff and give them choice.
“In addition, people can buy the Gloucester Gift Card online, as either a physical gift card or a digital e-card. It makes it really easy for the customer and really easy for our businesses to accept. Any previous Gloucester Quays gift cards can be exchanged for a new Gloucester Gift Card at the customer service desk.”
Gloucester’s gift card was introduced by Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) in November 2019 as a way to encourage local shopping and keep spend locked into the area.
A number of businesses at Gloucester Food Dock also accept the Gloucester Gift Card. Kyla Hyett is General Manager at Gloucester Food Dock and said the initiative encourages people to try new things and boosts the local economy:
“Gloucester Food Dock is a group of independent food and drink businesses in Victoria Basin, split across 4 levels, including Bella Mia Pizza, Chuck, Daikoku Ramen, Elote, Hetty’s Place, Hop Kettle, Our House, Scandinavian Coffee Pod, Strip Steak Bar and Wholly Gelato. The unique thing about Gloucester Food Dock is that it enables indie businesses to take the first step into a bricks and mortar presence.
“All of our businesses accept the Gloucester Gift Card – there are no extra costs for them to accept the card and it brings new revenue into their business, it’s just another form of payment. Having the Gloucester Gift Card can also encourage people to try something different, and even spend a little more on top of the gift card value. And at Gloucester Food Dock, they could use their card to have a starter, main and pudding at 3 different businesses. It’s a really good initiative to boost the local economy.”
Claire Knight, Marketing & Business Engagement Lead at Gloucester BID said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the 60 plus businesses at Gloucester Quays and the Gloucester Food Dock to the Gloucester Gift Card. Over 160 businesses, including the big brands people know and the local businesses they love, now accepting the card is fantastic and makes local shopping easier than ever. No other gift card can offer the choice that the Gloucester Gift Card offers and the support for local too.”
Colin Munro, Managing Director of Miconex said: “When it comes to gift buying, convenience is key with 1 in 3 people choosing gifts based on how quickly they can get them. Support for local is also at an all-time high, with 98% of people in 2024 saying they are keen to support local. That’s why partnerships between local gift cards and shopping centres are so effective – it makes supporting local easy and convenient.
“The partnership between Gloucester Quays and the Gloucester Gift Card builds on this model, demonstrating how shopping outlets and local gift cards can work together to create the ultimate ‘shop local’ gift card for the area that covers all bases, from designer brands to high street favourites and independent businesses, across all sectors.”
