Top tip: Read this before planning a trip to Hempsted Household Recycling Centre by Admin | Gloucester News Centre - http://gloucesternewscentre.co.uk/Hempsted Household Recycling Centre will close for 5 days this month for the final stage of traffic improvement work.
The upgrade will reduce queues at the Gloucester-based site, which is the busiest in the county and deals with over 16,000 tonnes of recycling and waste per year.
It will be closed from 19 – 23 June so that this work can go ahead. To minimise disruption the closure won’t affect weekend users.
Changes include extending the upper road area and creating a multiple-lane traffic system to improve travel around the site. As well as reducing queuing time to make life easier, it also means there’s potential for a reuse shop to be added.
Alternative facilities are available at Fosse Cross, Wingmoor Farm, Oak Quarry and Pyke Quarry. However residents may prefer to plan their visit before or after the closure dates to avoid potential queues at other sites.

Cllr Ray Theodoulou, cabinet member for finance and change, said: “This is the busiest household recycling centre in Gloucestershire, and demand is increasing. The upgrade is a sign of good progress being made towards more recycling and a cleaner county, as well as making life easier for residents.”
Cllr Pam Tracey, county councillor for Hempsted and Westgate said: “The Hempsted recycling and waste centre provides an important service to residents in the city and beyond, and these improvements will make life easier for everyone.”
